    Aviation in Malta

Malta offers over 50 years experience in aircraft engine repair and overhaul.  The high productivity, skills, fluency in English, high quality, reliable and flexible workmanship (with social costs contained at just 10% of gross wages) more than compensate for the wage differences between Malta and some other EU Member States.

As a location Malta offers significant advantages in this sector, being located within a couple of hours of flight time of major EU cities and North Africa opens Malta up to whole range of  markets while allowing  the country to enjoy the security and stability of an EU Member State.

Malta has a long history of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) since the British Royal Air Force entrusted the Maltese workforce with one of their bases opened over 60 years ago. Today Malta has an MRO Cluster consisting of companies such as the commercial German company Lufthansa Technik, the American company Aeromaritime, which carries out MRO on helicopter jet engines and the Libyan Medavia that carries out MRO on cargo and light aircrafts.

The Malta International Airport (MIA), an Austrian Maltese joint venture, offers state of the art operations and services. It handles 32,000 aircraft movements per year and 3 million passengers annually. There are 30 commercial aircraft stands and 15 stands for light aircraft.
